SAMARITAN'S PURSE
INTERNATIONAL RELIEF PROGRAM
www.samaritan.org
"Let my heart be broken with the things that break the heart of God."  Bob
Pierce wrote these now-famous words in his Bible after visiting suffering
children on the Korean island of Kojedo. This impassioned prayer is what
guided him as he founded and led the ministry of Samaritan's Purse in
1970. His mission for this organization—in his own words—was "to meet
emergency needs in crisis areas through existing evangelical mission
agencies and national churches." Since 1970, Samaritan's Purse has
helped meet needs of people who are victims of war, poverty, natural
disasters, disease, and famine.

Each year our family participates in the Samaritan's Purse Operation
Christmas Child program. The Samaritan Organization has been collecting
shoe boxes filled with gifts for 12 years and distributing them to needy
children at Christmas time each year.  First you find an empty shoe box and
decorate it with festive holiday paper.  Then you choose if you want to send
the box to a boy or girl.  Then you choose an age category:  Ages 2-4, Ages
5-9, Ages 10-14.  I have a 4 year old girl and a 7 year old boy - so we chose
to give 2 shoe boxes to children of the same sex and age as they are.
Finally, fill the shoe box with a variety of small gifts, toys, hygiene items,
books, hard candy.  Finally, drop off at local church or school drop off site
(around the holiday there were 8 such sites located within 20 minutes of my
house) or mail directly to the Samaritan Organization.

To find out more information about Operation Christmas Child, click on link
above, then click on "OUR WORK" tab and then click on "Operation
Christmas Child" from that pull-down menu.  7.6 Million shoe boxes were
collected in 2007 and distributed to children in over 105 countries around
the world.  I highly recommend ordering the DVD of the annual report that
shows children receiving and opening these bright and beautiful boxes... it
left my children and I moved to the point of tears and led to a great
discussion how there are kids in this world that do not have Pokemon,
American Girl dolls, Easy Bake ovens,  Barbies, or even stuffed animal
friends.
CARTMELL - DR. TODD CARTMELL
AUTHOR &  FAMILY THERAPIST
www.drtodd.net
Dr. Todd Cartmell is a clinical psychologist who works exclusively with
children and author of 3 parenting books, all of which I own.  I have been
to two of Dr. Todd's workshops at Hearts at Home Conferences and he is
fantastic.  I love his presentation and his theories.  He
gives you
step-by-step instructions to work with your children on a variety of issues
such as:  sharing, making friends, handling peer pressure, too much t.v.
and video games, getting kids to do chores, etc.  His latest book is called
"Raising Respectful Kids".  He is a great guide in training your kids to be
respectful to you and other adults, getting your kids to do their chores, and
to get along with their siblings.
HEARTS AT HOME
MOTHER'S ORGANIZATION
www.hearts-at-home.org
Founded in 1994, Hearts at Home exists to encourage women in the
profession of motherhood. "Hearts at Home is a non-denominational,
Christ-centered, professional organization for mothers at home or those
who want to be.  They desire to exalt God while educating and
encouraging women in their personal and family lives." They have 3
moms conferences a year.  I have gone to their overnight conference now
in Grand Rapids, Michigan for 9 years in a row and their national
conference in Illinois for 2 years with my girlfriends and we have a great
time re-charging our batteries, sharing with other moms, and taking
classes.  They have a web-site with tons of resources, references, and
links to mothering topics.  I also highly recommend their Hearts at Home
magazine; it has great stories and teachings about motherhood - it's
definitely something I look for in my mailbox.  I love Hearts at Home !
LOVE AND LOGIC
DISCIPLINE TECHNIQUES FOR PARENTS AND TEACHERS
www.loveandlogic.com
Dr. Jim Fay, Dr. Charles Fay, Dr. Foster Cline have a series of books,
cds, dvds, and workshops for Parents and Teachers.  I have 2 of their
books enjoyed hearing Dr. Jim Fay speak at the 2004 Walled Lake
Parenting Conference.  They have a great approach to parenting and it's
challenges.  They emphasize respect and discipline strategies with humor
and empathy.  They believe in real limits in a loving matter where
everything is tied to consequences and healthy decision making starting
young while they are in your house to prepare them for the real world later.

Dr. William Sears and his wife Martha, a registered nurse, have 8 children
of their own and have had a pediatric medical practice for more than 30
years and written over 30 books and have been on over 100 television
shows.  The Sears' are well known for their philosophy of "attachment

Now Dr. Jim and Dr. Bob join the Sears family tradition.  Two of William
and Martha's children are Pediatricians and fathers with their own
children.  They have joined the Sears family team of knowledge and
experience.

The Sears web-site is a great resource for pregnancy, childbirth, nutrition,
childhood illnesses and medication, and much more.  Their "The Baby
Book" is a must have for new moms and takes you from 0-2 years old and
gives you the low down on everything from cradle cap, rashes, crying,
development stages, and that famous and fantastic Sears Attachment
Parenting style.  This is my ultimate resource book and I still use it and I
just had my 3rd baby.  This book is the must give gift for any baby shower
or new mom gift (even a mult-time mom!).

LA  LECHE LEAGUE INTERNATIONAL
BREASTFEEDING INFORMATION AND SUPPORT
www.lalecheleague.org
Some of the La Leche League Breastfeeding Philosophies are:
Mothering through breastfeeding is the most natural and effective way of
understanding and satisfying the needs of the baby and Mother and baby
need to be together early and often to establish a satisfying relationship
and an adequate milk supply.

Their Mission is to help mothers worldwide to breastfeed through
mother-to-mother support, encouragement, information, and education,
and to promote a better understanding of breastfeeding as an important
element in the healthy development of the baby and mother.

There are La Leche groups, leaders, and support world-wide.  I attended
La Leche meetings with a local group before my first baby so I would be
prepared for breastfeeding.  I also attended that same local group after
the birth of my first child to help with all my questions and concerns.  Go
online and find a local group in your area.

They have an 800 number for emergency breastfeeding issues and
referrals to help in your local area.  Call 1-800-LALECHE or
1-800-525-3243.
Below are resources, information, and links that will help you on your journey of being
a parent and having a family.  These are resources that I actually have used and
respect.  Check out these web-sites, subscribe to their newsletters - they are filled
with valuable information.
I met Tracey and her family at a school fundraiser and LOVE her shirts
and bags and baby onesies ! Her "Fresh from God" baby onesies make
a great shower or new baby gift.  All of us that use environmental bags
when grocery shopping should pick up one of her totes "This is our
Father's World" with the Earth on it.

From Tracey's site:
"Welcome to bold4him.com a Canadian Christian t-shirt company! Are
you confident in your faith? Are you willing to be BOLD for Jesus?
Sometimes it is easier to keep quiet about our faith, slip in a quiet amen,
or thank God in our conversations, but do you have what it takes to
make a stand for Him and God’s kingdom?

Bold4him is all about clothing ourselves with the Word of God.
Romans 13:14 tells us to “clothe ourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ”.
The idea for this business is completely God’s – in fact He pretty much
wrote it down Himself.  Instead of you wearing a personal faith
statement, you are “putting on” something that will plant seeds of faith in
others. God wants his people to have a wake-up call. He has provided
the power words and a big punch line that will no doubt leave an
impression on others.
