The following is a list of books that I have in my own library collection
and I have personally read all of them in their entirety. They are books
about parenting, picky eaters, home-keeping, and more.  Enjoy !

PARENTING

365 Ways to Raise Great Kids by Sheila Ellison

The 7 Stages of Motherhood by Ann Pleshette Murphy
This book "urges women to reflect on the seismic shifts they undergo at each stage of
their children's lives and to focus on their own evolution." "Each stage of motherhood
has its own challenges and opportunities."  "She identifies periods of particular
intensity in a mother's life and provides indispensable tips about how to manage at
each stage."
Stage 1 - Altered States: Pregnancy, Birth, and the Fourth Trimester
Stage 2 - Finding Your Footing, Finding Yourself: Months Four through
    Twelve
Stage 3 - Letting Go: The Toddler Years, One and Two
Stage 4 - Trying to Do It All: The PreSchool Years, Three to Six
Stage 5 - Reading the Compass to God-Knows-Where: Years Six to 10
Stage 6 - Living in the Gray Zone: The PreTeen Years, Ten to Thirteen
Stage 7 - It Gets Easier... and Then They Leave: The Teen Years, Thirteen to
    Eighteen
I was surprised by this book. I don't know what I expected, but I didn't expect to be so
touched.  Ann Murphy really touched my heart and soul as a mom. "Motherhood is
the ultimate transformation, a powerful and thrilling metamorphosis." Reading about
her travels through the 7 Stages of Motherhood gave you a glimpse of the whys
behind the situations and the hows to make things smoother.  Sometimes just hearing
what another mom is going through makes it better and easier.

PREGNANCY

Great with Child by Debra Rienstra
This book is an interesting perspective on pregnancy and childbirth.  Debra
addresses the spirituality of the whole process.  A lot of books deal with the
pure physicality of the changes happening to a mother's body.  Debra looks
at the changes in a woman's soul that takes place as she grows this baby in
her belly and gives birth.  She acknowledges what an honor and privilege
this is that should be celebrated.  The author chronicles her journey through
pregnancy, birth, and the first year of motherhood, both to savor it and to
comprehend its' reach.
Psalm 139:13
"For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's
womb."
"The minute a child is born, we see that he or she is unique not only in
physical features but in temperament, too.  There is significant credibility to
the idea that some traits are simply hard-wired.  My daughter was as wiggly
and energetic in my belly as outside."

Look Great, Feel Great (12 Keys to Enjoying a Healthy Life Now)
by Joyce Meyer
Joyce Meyer is a very dynamic speaker and this is the first book of hers I read. Right
in her introduction she starts with the bible verse:"Do you not know that your body is
a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You
are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body."
1 Corinthians 6:19-20. She has combined the latest research on topics like Key 3
Mastering Metabolism and Key 4 Exercise with spiritual inspirations such as Key 8
Curb Your Spiritual Hunger , Key 1 Let God do the Heavy Lifting and emotional
connections such as Key 2 Learning to Love your Body.

Five Ways to Be a Mindful Eater
    1. Pay attention to how you feel afterward.
Do you feel exhausted and sluggish with no energy after you eat?  You want to
eat foods that energize and fulfill you afterwards.
    2. Say Grace
"Thanking God for the bounty on your table is the best way I now to
immediately bring yourself into a more healthy relationship with your food."
    3. Don't Multi-Task with Food
"When you get distracted by something like TV, you get cut off from your
natural sensations and are much more likely to keep stuffing food in without
    even knowing it."
    4. Slow Down
"It takes about twenty minutes for the food you eat to pass through your
stomach and reach your small intestine, which detects the food and sends "all
    full" messages to the brain."
    5. Turn off the Bargain Detector
"Dave and I often split meals at restaurants. With soup or salad, one entree is
usually plenty for two of us, and it leaves us enough room to occasionally split
a dessert.  We get an affordable meal and dessert, too!"

Her Epilogue address that we need to be good role models for the next generation -
our children.  Kid's obesity is at true epidemic proportions.  The average child watches
3 hours of television a day, which adds up to 10,000 commercials a year.  Guess what
- a lot of those adds are for junk food, candy, pop, and fast food - they are hearing
this message over and over and over.  A great start is to turn off that t.v. - we know it
can be a great babysitter while we are all soo busy, but send those kids out in the
backyard after school for fresh air.  Get the kids involved in meal preparation.  I love
Appendix C - The Quick-Fix Emergency Sheet
It has a quick summary  that recaps each key and a quick fix for each so, "When you
find yourself weaken in any of your twelve key areas during the day, pull out your
copy, and get yourself back on track"

Super Baby Food by Ruth Yaron

Making Family Websites by Jenni Bidner
Even though the internet and web information changes fast, this book published in
2003 gives great ideas on how to make a family web-site.  This book does not teach
you how to write code and become a web designer. It gives examples and ideas for
family web-site to include family photos, wedding photos, family reunion
information.  What a great idea for a family project !  Create a family web-site that
your relatives can look at for the latest up-to-date photos, school projects, family
trees, pet pages, recipes, and all that good stuff that makes up your family. This is a
good starter book to point you in the right direction and get you thinking about the
layout and design of your family web-site.

CHILDREN'S STORIES

Baby Shoes by Dashka Slater
A delightful book about a toddler who got new shoes white as light, with stripes of
blue.  Mama and Baby take a walk and have many adventures throughout the day in
Baby's New Shoes. Wonderful and fun rhyming and beautiful illustrations by Hiroe
Nakata.  This book is a favorite of my 5 year old Maria.

Five Minutes Peace by Jill Murphy
A fun story of Mama Elephant just trying to sneak away and get 5 minutes peace from
all of her elephant children.  A book that rings true for so many of us moms who
maybe stay in the bathroom a few minutes longer in search of 5 minutes peace.

I Will Never NOT Ever eat at Tomato by Lauren Child (featuring
Charlie & Lola)
We love the British brother and Sister Charlie and Lola on television and books.
Older Brother Charlie has to put up with the many misadventures of his 4 year old

not ever ever eat in a different perspective.

answers and asks questions in that special 5 year old way.  Her mother helps her learn

a great starting point to try and explain death and Heaven. This book has beautiful
pastel illustrations by Sandra Speidel.
