U.S. President Woodrow Wilson first proclaimed Armistice Day for November 11, 1919. In proclaiming the holiday, he said:

Today Harry and David kicked off the 3rd Annual “Support Our Troops with Moose Munch® Bars” program, which allows families, friends and supporters of the U.S. military to purchase the popular Harry & David® Moose Munch® treat and send them to war zones, for sweet enjoyment by our men and women in service.

The leading gourmet gift retailer has once again teamed up with Soldiers’ Angels, a non-profit agency that ships care packages to U.S. soldiers in combat, to deliver the sweet taste of chocolate to our troops. Since last fall, over 70,000 Moose Munch® Bars were shipped to soldiers in military bases abroad, through the “Support Our Troops with Moose Munch® Bars” program which ends this year on December 31, 2011.

Harry & David stores nationwide will offer customers the opportunity to purchase Moose Munch® Bars and gift them to soldiers with a personalized greeting message. Each bar and note is packaged with a plastic spoon and sent to Soldiers’ Angels to be dispersed to military bases in war zones abroad.

At many military bases, the 100-degree heat melts the signature chocolate, caramel corn and nuts confection into a lusciously gooey treat that makes it easy for our soldiers to enjoy the sweet taste of home. With most perishable dessert items not capable of being sent into war zones, we continue to hear that Moose Munch® Bars are one of the most requested items from soldiers serving in combat.
