Book Time: Teen Book Review of Tunnels by Roderick Gordan and Brian Williams

AUTHORS:
Roderick and Brian are a couple of British dudes that I found out about through my friend Jacob at school. He had read this entire Tunnel series and said it was awesome. Well, that was enough for me! So, on my next trip to the library I checked out this book. Learn more about the authors here on their website.

BOOK PLOT:
Will Burrows is a 14 year old boy that is the son of an archaeologist, Dr. Burrows. Will is a junior archaeologist himself that not only likes what he finds, but likes the whole process of digging for treasures too! People know that he and his dad are diggers, but no one knows what they are digging for or where.

Except Will showed Chester one of their dig sites secretly without telling his dad. Chester is Will’s best friend and is the only one that stands up for him at school when he is bullied.

Dr. Burrows gets called into an old lady’s house for help and information about strange ball that glows from no known source that she found from her dug up chimney. He takes the mystery ball with him and gets it researched by his physicist buddy and finds out some amazing thing about this glowing mystery ball!

Next thing you know Will’s father abruptly disappears and Will is devastated! So the adventure begins as 14 year olds Will & Chester go searching for his dad and the journey ends up with a secret passageway leading to mysterious tunnels and a lot of very mysterious happenings! I can’t tell you anymore or I will spoil the story for you!

WHY YOU SHOULD READ THIS:
I think you should read this book because it’s interesting when they search for Will’s father and learn all of the stuff Will knows about digging plus the stuff he and his father has found before his dad went missing. All this and a plot twist you will never see coming!

AGE RANGE RECOMMENDATION:
11-15 I guess because of the fights and the detailed descriptive stuff is too graphic for younger kids.

CAUTIONS:
idk maybe when it mentions someone dying + also there are detailed fights + one guy threw up on himself. :)

OVERALL BOOK RATING:
4 out of 5 because it should have been faster paced in the beginning but after that it was amazing! Once it got going I couldn’t put it down! I can’t tell you how many times I got caught in class reading the book when I wasn’t supposed to be reading.

ADDITIONAL BOOKS:
Tunnels is the first book of a series. There are three additional books: Deeper, Freefall, and Closer. Learn all about the entire series on the authors’ website here. Also, the book rights were recently picked up to be made into a movie. You can watch the new trailer for the movie below:
